Book Club: Guest Author, Talia Carner via Zoom

Monday, December 7, 2020 21 Kislev 5781

8:00 PM - 9:00 PM

At our most recent meeting, the Book Club discussed The Dutch House by Ann Patchett. With quite a large turnout, we had a lively and perceptive conversation.

The book we have chosen for our next discussion is The Third Daughter by Talia Carner. In this novel the author ably illuminates a little-known piece of history: the sex trafficking of young women from Russia to South America in the late 19th century. Thoroughly researched and vividly rendered, this is an important and unforgettable story of exploitation and empowerment that will leave you both shaken and inspired.

Please note that our next Book Club meeting will have a different time and format. The author will lead a Zoom discussion of the book on Monday, December 7 at 8:00pm. Because Ms. Carner is offering this event to two other book groups, there is space for only 18 of our members. Each person MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE for this meeting: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAodumhpz0qE9KAuIcmGzimRYRN3b12n7f9

Once you have registered, please RSVP to me at ediewolf@gmail.com or 443.223.9729 so that I may keep a list just in case we have a wait list and/or cancellations.

The Reader’s Guide appears in the back of the print version of the novel (but not in the digital, audio, or large print) so you may find it useful to access it from the author’s website: https://www.taliacarner.com/the-third-daughter/readers-guide-2/ Questions for the author to discuss during the Zoom presentation may be emailed to her prior to the meeting. Her email address is available on the registration confirmation you will receive via email. Please let me know if you have any questions about this process.
