Carmin Yannotta was born on August 14, 1924, which makes him 98 years old.  His parents were Italian immigrants, and he was the youngest boy of seven children. Carmin was a star high school baseball player in Summit NJ, and quickly developed into an all-state player, drawing the attention of the New York Yankees. After graduating high school, he was asked to play for the Yankees farm league team.  However, before he was able to report, the Army drafted him to fight in WWII.

He served as a corporal in General Patton’s Third Army and fought throughout Europe, including at the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle of Metz, and liberated the Vocklabruck concentration camp in Austria. Carmin lost several of his good friends during the war and believes that the real heroes are those that lost their lives.  He says that “our country would never have been the same if it weren’t for the sacrifices made by his fellow countrymen during the war.” He serves as an ambassador for the Southeast Florida Honor Flight organization which transports local veterans to Washington, D.C. to honor their service.

For the last eight years he has worked as a door greeter at the Home Depot store in North Palm Beach, FL where he has made countless friends and customers regularly stop by to thank him for his service. Although an injury during the war prevented him from continuing his baseball career, Carmin is an avid baseball fan and regularly attends as many spring training games as he can.
