11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's Program on Kristallnacht

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 11:30am Sisterhood will host a lunch and learn entitled "The Path to Kristallnacht."

On the night of November 9, 1938, the Nazi regime coordinated a wave of antisemitic violence in Nazi Germany. This nationwide riot became known as Kristallnacht or the "Night of Broken Glass."  But in the years from 1933 through 1938, through hundreds of legal measures, the Jews were gradually excluded from public life and demonized. Each year the plight of the Jews became more fraught. How did the environment for Jews change over these 5 years to enable Kristallnacht to happen? What parallels do we see today?  Our very own Sisterhood member, Lois Remick, with the able assistance of Jackie Goldwurm will present us with a visual program from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.  Lois will explain how the years leading up to Kristallnacht promoted the demonization and growth of hostility toward the Jews. Lunch WILL be provided so please RSVP by November 4 to Renee Weisman at sisterhoodoftemplebetham@gmail.com or reneelkw@aim.com

This program is open to all TBA members but you must RSVP.

Lois Remick served as an historian at Independence National Historical Park, as well as a school administrator. For the past 21 years, she has taught social studies in area private schools and tutored the same online to students as far away as Saudi Arabia and Latvia.
