Temple Beth Am will host guest speaker and former IDF soldier, Achiya, and his guide dog, Joy, to tell their story and share about the work of the Israel Guide Dog Center. 

About Chia and Joy: 

In 2013  Achiya was a 22 year old officer in an elite command unit of the IDF. Achiya led his men on a mission to destroy a terrorist tunnel outside of Gaza. During the mission, an improvised explosive device was detonated, killing 4 terrorists and severely wounding Achiya, robbing him of his vision. 

Achiya received his first guide dog in 2015, and has been partnered with Joy, a yellow lab, since 2023. 

Since having a guide dog Achiya has competed in the Paraolympics,  completed a Masters degree, and started a family.
