Rosh Hashanah
This is the beginning of the Jewish New Year. We pray to be judged kindly, have a long life, good health and success in all our endeavors. We greet each other with wishes for a Shanah Tovah (Good Year) and Shanah M'tukah (Sweet Year). The Shofar (ram's horn) is blown, calling all to worship together, to reflect on the past year and to pray for the coming year. At Temple Beth Am, we create an atmosphere in which all can follow the Service and feel welcomed. We pray and sing, using the Machzor High Holy Day prayer book which is in English, Hebrew and transliteration. Beautiful melodies and Torah Trope are used to signify the importance of the High Holy Days. It is tradition to eat round (rather than long braided) Challah and apples dipped in honey - to symbolize our hope for a sweet New Year. Temple Beth Am wishes you and your family a Happy & Healthy New Year. Shanah Tovah!
