Shalom Chai Overview
Temple Beth Am
Community Hebrew High School

Dear Parents and Students:

We are pleased to welcome you to another great year at Shalom Chai, Temple Beth Am Community Hebrew High School, where learning is fun, and teens connect – to one another, their passions for learning and their Judaism, in a safe, nurturing environment.

The earlier years of Religious School are all about acquiring knowledge, mostly in conjunction with becoming a Bar / Bat Mitzvah. But the journey doesn’t end there – in fact, it is really just beginning! Shalom Chai is about connecting what the students have learned thus far to their everyday lives. Our program is designed to be relevant, engaging, and uniquely crafted to the lives of today’s teenagers. It provides them with a solid foundation of Jewish information necessary to help them make informed Jewish decisions through enjoyable, experiential classes.

You spoke… we listened…. Shalom Chai is all about the students – we periodically ask the student body for feedback and we act on it; from schedule changes to food changes – we’ve incorporated some great suggestions to make next year’s Shalom Chai even better! Pizza is good, but….every week?

Studies have shown that continuing Jewish education through high school provides teens with a lifelong, strong Jewish identity and connection to the Jewish people. At Shalom Chai, all of our classes are designed to be interactive. We encourage our students to wrestle with the subject matter, whether it is in a text-based class or something of a more cultural nature.

Here are a few comments from the students themselves:

-- Shalom Chai is a great hangout and a cool place to go for teens.

-- I like Shalom Chai because I can interact with my peers…we choose to be here!

-- I made friends and really learned what it means to be Jewish.

-- Shalom Chai is fun and interactive - and I liked the teachers.

-- Great Electives – especially Cooking, Israeli Dancing, and Jewish Yoga!

Register NOW! – classes start Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at 6:30 pm. Any questions? Please give me a call at 747-1109 or drop me an email: dsherman@templebetham.com. I’m looking forward to seeing you next year at Shalom Chai!
