About Paula Deakter
My name is Paula Deakter. I have had the pleasure of working in the educational field for 33 years. I have a Masters in the area of Learning Disabilities, with Bachelors in Special Education and Elementary Education.
Previously, I taught grades kindergarten through fifth grade in Barbados, Stuart and Fort Pierce. When my own children, Rachel and Josh were young, I tutored children with reading problems. I became active at Temple Beth Am when Rachel was eighteen months old. When Josh was three I developed the first ‘Parent and Me’ program at our Temple. Before long I began teaching kindergarten through third grade in our then, small religious school. Over the nineteen years that I was the director of Temple Beth Am Religious School, it has grown to be a large successful school of over 150 students. In the past six years, I have led and developed our preschool, which now has over 85 children and is still growing. My greatest working accomplishment has been having the opportunity and pleasure of being involved in the educational growth at Temple Beth Am. I feel very passionate about the importance of introducing Judaism and Jewish concepts to the children in our preschool. Along with my staff, we strive to familiarize our children with Jewish values, rituals and beliefs, as well as to develop hands-on and experiential curriculum where children learn on a level that is developmentally appropriate for them.
It is with great pride that I can say that Temple Beth Am Preschool is NAEYC accredited as of June 30, 2006. NAEYC is the largest organization of early childhood educators. Their accreditation system was established to raise the quality of early childhood education and to help families and others easily identify high-quality childhood programs and centers. Our entire staff worked very hard to obtain this goal, and continues to work very hard towards maintaining this honor.
I enjoy weekends, boating, reading and spending time with my family and friends. The loves of my life are my husband, Mike, my two children, Rachel and Josh and my preschool. I feel like a proud parent each time I come through the doors of our beautiful preschool. “A hundred years from now…it will not matter what your bank account was, what sort of house you lived in, or the kind of car you drove…But the world may be different because you were important in the life of a child”. I fully appreciate what an amazing opportunity I have to help lay the foundation on which our children here at Temple Beth Am Preschool may build not only their educational experiences but also their lives. I LOVE WORKING HERE!
