Temple Beth Am Beach Cleanup at Carlin Park Sunday, January 15th, 2012 From 8:00-10:00am
This promises to be a great intergenerational event that can bring young kids, older adults and families together for a fun morning at the beach. There will be breakfast served with bagels, muffins, coffee, juice. Last year, we had over 80 TBA members turn out for the festivities and it promises to be bigger and better!
For students, you can also receive community service hours and a sense of pride and fulfillment.
If members or guests would like to sign up or have any questions, please contact Mike or Debbie.

FAMILY PROMISE IS UP & RUNNING - AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!
With the High Holidays right around the corner, please consider performing a mitzvah for those in need in our own community. Isaiah 58:7- You shall "share [your] bread with the hungry and bring the homeless into [your] house". We are excited to announce that Family Promise is up & running!!
If you have not heard about this great organization, the following is a brief summary: Family Promise of North/Central Palm Beach County (FP) is an interfaith network which assists temporarily homeless children & their families (up to 14 guests/4 families each week) with meals and housing at host congregations. There are over 150 affiliates in 39 states, including in South Palm Beach County. Temple Beth Am is a supporting congregation in the new North/Central network.
We are teaming with St. Mark’s Church in PBG to help them with their hosting week, starting Sunday afternoon, September 18th through Sunday morning, September 25th. We apologize for the short notice, but the North County network just began 2 ½ weeks ago.
The St. Mark’s coordinators are depending on TBA to help with the following:
1) Lunches- we will be providing food, supplies and assistance for the families to make lunches for themselves (currently 2 families consisting of 2 adults and 6 children), each evening, around 7-8 p.m. Volunteers & donations are needed.
2) Saturday, September 24th- we will entertain the families at St. Mark’s (or somewhere nearby if we can locate transportation). We need volunteers from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. You do not need to be there for the entire time- let us know when you can be there.
3) Overnight Hosts- They need 1-2 overnight hosts from 8:30 p.m.-6:00 a.m. each of the following nights: 9/21, 9/22, 9/23, and 9/24. We can provide additional details.
4) Wish List- 2 wish lists (one from St. Mark’s for their hosting week, and one from Family Promise) are attached. Items can be brought to TBA & placed in the bins in the lobby.
Anyone who plans to volunteer is welcome to attend a volunteer meeting at St. Mark’s on Thursday, September 15th at 6:30 p.m. in their chapel- park in the east parking lot (off of Burns Road). We can carpool there.
Please contact me at 247-5195 or debbysbaker@gmail.com, or Lois Remick at 627-7736 or lorem47@bellsouth.net if you are interested in helping or have any questions.
It would be wonderful to do a mitzvah before the high holidays and show an outpouring of support for this wonderful organization and the families.
How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world. -- Anne Frank

Homebound Mitzvah Program For Shabbat:
For fourteen years, MorseLife and caring volunteers have been bringing traditions of the Jewish Holidays to homebound seniors who would otherwise be unable to attend services, or enjoy this time with family. Our Homebound Mitzvah Program makes a difference to seniors of our community, and for our volunteers, it remains a wonderful mitzvah.
We are now extending this program to Shabbat, recruiting a few special volunteers to deliver Challah and wine on the first Friday of each month to three homebound seniors in Century Village. As a Shabbat Program volunteer, you would also be “delivering” quality time – talking to them and ensuring they are not having any medical or other issues. The commitment is 20-30 minutes per visit, or a total of 1.5 hours per month. This could also be a multigenerational program for your whole family.
Please consider being a part of this wonderful once-per-month Shabbat Mitzvah Program. For more information, call Nadine Greenberg, Director of Volunteer Services at (561) 687-5871 or email at nadineg@morselife.org.

THANK YOU... On behalf of the Temple Beth Am Men’s Club and Social Action Committee, I want to thank all of the families and friends that participated in the 1st TBA Beach Clean Up at Carlin Beach Park on Sunday, April 10th. We had 75 people attend the beach clean up. It was a wonderful showing of community spirit, camaraderie and Tikkun Olam and a wonderful way to teach our children about saving our beaches and taking care of the environment.
We hope that this is the first of many beach clean ups for Temple Beth Am. Several people made this event possible. I would like to say thank you to the people who spearheaded the event (Debbie Smith, David Sherman, Rabbi Alon Levkovitz, Debby Baker).
