Men's Club
by Jerry Holinstat
I cannot believe how fast time has been flying by. It seems like only yesterday that I assumed the responsibility of President of the Men’s Club. Yet here we are just finishing an Ideation Session for our plans for 2012 through 2013, and beyond. The meeting included all members of the Men’s Club and when we were through we had filled eight (8) flip-chart pages of ideas for the future of the Temple Beth Am Men’s Club. The only rule stated at the beginning of the meeting was “there are no dumb ideas; the only dumb idea is the idea that is not submitted.” Now that may not sound very ambitious, but about five months ago all we heard was, “we’re out of new ideas and that there is very little participation”. What a turn around and I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of the positive attitude that our members now exude in performing our mission to be of “Service to our Temple”. I am very proud to be able to be identified as a member of such a fine team of men.
Each month as I sit down to write my Scribe article I never know where to start and what to include. There are so many things that the Men’s Club does on a daily basis that we don’t bother to mention, because we just take them for granted. So what we do include are the bigger items. For example, David Elias and our honorary member, Mary Elias, are facilitating the Men’s Club’s Mystery Progressive Dinner on January 28. Currently, we have nearly sixty (60) participants. There still may be time to sign-up so hurry and call the Temple office.
David Elias is also our Breakfast Program speaker on Sunday, February 12th. David, a Financial Advisor, will be discussing “Retirement Planning and Investing in These Uncertain Times.” Please plan to attend his spirited presentation that answers your investment questions.
The greatest honor that I have as President is, once a year, being part of a group that decides who has contributed the most in service to our Temple. This year we have unanimously selected John Marzina as the Men’s Club’s Man of the Year. This honor will be bestowed upon John in the Temple Social Hall on Sunday, March 11th, at 9:45am, along with a Special Breakfast. If by chance you have not had the opportunity to participate in any past Man of the Year award breakfasts, this year is your opportunity to help us celebrate John’s wonderful contributions that have and still do help us to succeed as a progressive Temple. I have included a flyer for John’s Special Breakfast for your perusal. You will be performing a wonderful Mitzvah by attending this event which will be facilitated by our own in-house comic, Hal Baseman, and crew.
