OUR CHOIR
Do you wish you could participate more fully in Services? Would you like to learn more about the liturgy; the meaning of the prayers and blessings of Jewish worship? Would you like to experience Services in a more spiritual, fully immersed, meaningful way? Do you love to sing? Have you always secretly wanted to sing in the choir?
Now is the perfect time to join the choir at Temple Beth Am! Don’t worry if you haven’t tried it before… I’m new here, too! Jewish worship is a musical experience, and the more familiar you become with the music and liturgy, the more you will get out of every service you attend.
Choir is for everyone; at the end of Yom Kippur each year, I always wish that every single member of the congregation could have experienced the High Holy Days as the members of the choir do, and, in fact, you can. I approach choir as primarily an adult education experience, and rehearsals are open to all Temple Beth Am members. I invite you and urge you to join us for any or all of our rehearsals if you would like to feel more comfortable singing along from the congregation, or if you would like to learn the deeper meaning behind the prayers we sing, as well as the ways in which the musical settings that Rabbi Alon and I have chosen reflect that meaning. If you love to sing in harmony or want to learn some vocal technique, the choir is a great opportunity. Temple members over the age of bar or bat mitzvah may sing with the choir, serving along with the clergy as sh'liche tzibur, the messengers of the congregation who lead our prayers. Cantor’s Chantors resumes for singers below the age of bar or bat mitzvah!) If you choose to participate in the rehearsal process, you are not obligated to sit with the choir during the holidays; you can choose to sing along from anywhere in the congregation.
The Adult choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm – 8:30pm.
Cantor's Chantors children's choir meets Sundays,
after Religious School from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
